DETAILED PROGRAM 2022

The Festival European Polyphony celebrates its 4th edition, from October 10th to 24th, 2022.

This year, an ambitious program combines arts, culture, and creativity.
The Festival will transform the Medieval City of Rhodes into a big interactive music workshop combining arts, culture, and creativity.

During
15 days, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of art activities: concerts, music workshops, music walk, photo exhibition and screenings.

Discover the city of Rhodes through the multidisciplinary activities offered by the artists in the most beautiful places in the city.

From 10th to 24th of October, 2022, you will have the opportunity to discover :
- Concerts with the well known
Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC), winners of two Grammy Awards under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste.
The french
Choir Mikrokosmos and the Transe Express Company with the monumental singing dolls will compete the program.
- Music workshops

- A Photo Exhibition
- Screenings of the short film "

3 CONCERTS

SUNDAY 10th of October 

Transe Express Company:

The Transe Express Company is a french group of outdoor performing artists, existing since 1982. During the Festival, they will perform opera arias in the streets of Rhodes with their gigantic creations (Poupées Géantes), tall divas dressed in huge clothes.

Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC):

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir was founded in 1981 by the Estonian conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. It is a world-renowned vocal ensemble, with 15 Grammy Award nominations in total, 2 of which were awarded. For its first time in Greece, the Choir will honor this invitation by presenting the work of the world's most respected living composer, Arvo Pärt.

2 MUSIC WALKS

Musicians will form several groups and will gather in certain places of the Medieval City of Rhodes. In each location, the public will be able to discover and join a session, and thus benefit from a different experience. The musicians will explore the sound transmission, giving the public the opportunity to participate by singing along. This is an opportunity for visitors to discover, try out and play (percussion, singing, etc.) in these music walks, while meeting and exchanging with the artists.

The French Chamber Choir Mikrokosmos was founded in 1989 by Loïc Pierre, who is also its conductor.

"Photo and audio exhibition - Journey in the Mediterranean, from Sicily to Rhodes”

In this 4th Edition, we are pleased to welcome the Italian photographer Riccardo Fisichella and the sound sculptor Chrysanthos Antoniou.

In this exhibition, Riccardo Fisichella presents a series of photos shot in Sicily, his native island. A musical work accompanies each photo in the exhibition, adding a new perspective and immersion in the image. By means of a QR Code, the public may discover a work of " sound and vision " questioning the border between photography and music.

2 FILM SCREENINGS

FRIDAY 14th AND SATURDAY 15th of October

PASSION” - Short Film (commission by the 3rd Edition of the Festival)

The French actor and director Gabriel Mirété, participated in the first three editions of the Festival European Polyphony. Inspired by the place and the choir, he wrote and directed this short film, in which he is also the main actor.

Venue: Rhodes Cinema

Time: 8:30pm

This short film was shot between confinements in 2020, in Paris, Vierzon and Rhodes by Gabriel Mirété and his team. Alongside Gabriel, appear Léa Issert, Costis Savvidakis, Spyros Spanos, the Experimental Choir of the Municipality of Rhodes and the Rhodes Theater Company.

A Greek-French coproduction: Festival European Polyphony, Sikana.

Synopsis: Would you be willing to leave everything for your passion? This is what Ionas, a young Greek with a passion for music, will do. He will leave his life on the island of Rhodes in order to join the Mikrokosmos choir in France.

EDUCATIONAL AND MUSICAL PROJECT FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS

FROM TUESDAY 11th TO FRIDAY 14th of October

More than 1000 children will be reached through dozens of interactive music workshops that will take place in primary schools in Rhodes.  The schoolchildren will be able to discover classical music through the voice, the composers and several illustrations linked to the programme of Mikrokosmos Chamber Choir. Together, they will work throughout the 2022 school year, resulting in a concert during the Festival period. These workshops are also meant to prepare young people for a joint creation with guest artists. This year, the children will join the project of the Transe Express Company, an open-air parade of giant dolls singing opera songs, with musicians.

This music workshop is intended for young people aged 6-12 and 13-17. Various methods of teaching and practice are used for different ages.

Adult Workshops:

This workshop is open to both amateurs and curious people, and requires an immersive and dynamic participation from everyone involved.
